Aldermore Bank was founded in 2009 by Phillip Monks. It is a UK-based specialist bank that focuses on providing lending and savings products to underserved markets, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), homeowners, and landlords. Though it began operations in 2009, the company's corporate history can be traced back to a different entity, Lordsvale Finance plc, which was incorporated in 1969.
It was acquired by the South African company FirstRand Group in March 2018. The deal was agreed upon in November 2017 for £1.1 billion, following an announcement that FirstRand had agreed to buy the UK bank.
